Counselling & Psychotherapy

What is Counselling?

Counselling is an opportunity to talk about feelings with a non-judgmental, empathetic person who will keep what you say confidential. This is different than talkig to a friend, as a counsellor is not as personally involved and can therefore offer a more objective perspective. This allows the individual to consider their feelings more freely and work through them, allowing them to heal themselves.

Who can Counselling help?

Anyone could benefit from counselling. Some people may feel depressed or low much of the time and may not know why, other people may have a good idea about why they feel the way they do. Most people have experienced something in their life that they struggle to get over, which may lead to other problems such as pannic attacks, low mood, tearfulness, anger, heavy drinking and weight loss or gain.

What to expext?

For an individual session with me there will be only myself and the client in the room. On the first meeting some basic information will be asked for, such as why the client has chosen to attend, what difficulties they are experiencing and a brief history of their life. I will then give the client some information abour counselling, confidentiality, my qualifications and experience, and allow the client to aks any questions they may have about sessions, concerns, boundaries etc. After the first session clients will attend and talk about whatever it is that has brought them into counselling.
